Dr. Ahmed El-Sherbini is director
of Egypt’s National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), affiliated
to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
He is also a professor in the Electrical and Communication Engineering
Department of Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering
and vice chairman of the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU)’s Telecommunication Development Advisory Group. He
has previously held the positions of cultural counselor and director
of the Educational Bureau of the Egyptian Embassy in Canada and
vice chairman of Study Group 2 for the ITU’s Development
Sector (ITU-D).
Dr. El-Sherbini is a board member of Egypt’s National Telecommunication
Regulatory Authority (NTRA), a member of the Senior Technical
Committee of the Engineers General Syndicate, a board member of
the Communication Engineers Scientific Society, a former board
member of the Egyptian High-Tech Association, a former Chairman
of student activities at the IEEE’s Egypt Section, a founding
member and former president of Cairo River Nile Rotary Club, and
a founding member of the egyptian internet Society.
Dr. El-Sherbini has edited and co-authored 13 books on ICT-related
topics and published more than 80 scientific research papers in
periodicals and local, regional and international conferences.
His honors include the First Degree Medal of Excellence from the
President of Egypt in 1995, the Cairo University Appreciation
Award in 1989 and the Egyptian State Award in Engineering Science
in 1987.
He obtained a Ph.D. in Electrical and Communication Engineering
from Case Western University, USA, in 1983 and an M.Sc. in communication
engineering from Cairo University in 1980.
